Boys Soccer in July Goes Abroad

Escola Americana athletes traveled to two international soccer cups in July 2008.

Escola Americana athletes traveled to two international soccer cups in July.  Twenty-eight Middle and Lower School students participated in the USA Soccer Cup in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and brought home two silver medals.  Our students played on three teams against athletes from Costa Rica, Colombia, Mexico, and the USA in this youth world cup held every year for aspiring young soccer players.

Also in July, Middle and Upper School boys traveled to Europe to participate in the challenging Scandinavian soccer tournaments: Stockholm Summer Games, Helsinki Cup and Gothia Cup.  After winning first place in Stockholm, they finished the Helsinki Cup among the best 16 out of 90 teams.  In Gothenburg, they did not go past the first round, but the whole trip was a fantastic experience for our athletes.  Students had the most amazing time competing and also, visiting historical sites in Europe.
