The EA Middle School has the following characteristics:
- Teachers are organized into grade
level teams with common planning time and regular meetings to discuss
programs and student needs. The team is able to change the structure of
the day or class location to include special presentations or
activities.
- The curriculum and teaching methodology at each grade level has
been developed with the needs of the preadolescent in mind. Assessment
includes projects and activities as well as traditional tests.
Exploration activities in the fine arts are encouraged. The school
offers a variety of extracurricular programs such as the Leadership
Conference, Student Council, Peer Counseling, and Sports.
- The counseling and advisory programs provide support for all
students. The advisor is an adult advocate for each student. The
advisory program provides an opportunity for students to discuss issues
that concern them and to learn about various aspects of
preadolescence.
- A close partnership with the family is valued by the school. Two
regularly scheduled parent conference days are held each year. Parents
are welcome to meet with teachers about a specific concern at any time
during the school year. Parents are also welcome to confer with their
child’s advisor. The school sponsors a parent support group that meets
monthly to discuss issues related to young adolescents. Parents are
encouraged to come to school and talk to staff members about their
concerns.
